2 Corinthians 5:20-6:2
Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

“Spare, O LORD, your people, and make not your heritage a reproach, with the nations ruling over them! Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?'”

This question spoken by the prophet, Joel, is a question at the heart of our Lenten season of repentance for us to ponder in reference to our relationship with God. Where is our God?

Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

“Blow the trumpet in Zion! Proclaim a fast, call an assembly.” These words of the prophet Joel, call for us each and all to stop.  The trumpet is not unlike an alarm that prompts us to be aware and not to panic. We hear this trumpet on Ash Wednesday to return to the Lord who never leaves us, but who we too frequently leave from our attentiveness.
